In this episode of the Just Japan Podcast, host Kevin O’Shea talks to returning guest Jenny Silver about her experiences as a Caucasian woman living and working in Japan. Jenny is a professional voice actor, narrator, translator and video blogger who is based in the Kanto region of Japan.

In the past, the majority of video bloggers and bloggers sharing their lives in Japan were men but now, more and more women are sharing their Japan experiences.

Kevin talks to Jenny about her past experiences as a female member of the JET program teaching in public schools in Japan. They talk about how foreign women may be perceived by their male and female Japanese counterparts while working in Japan. Jenny explains that having an open-mind and learning about the new culture you are taking part in is key to not getting frustrated.

Does being a woman have an impact on her current career as a voice-actor in Japan?

Jenny and Kevin also talk about the opportunities foreign women have working in Japan as well as what women who are planning to live in Japan can do to better prepare themselves for living in such a different culture.
