Have you been thinking of coming to Sapporo to check out the wealth of culture, sights, festivities and foods? It goes without saying that during this international age, it is significantly easier to travel than in the days of old but even so it can be a challenge sometimes to find someone who can speak English to answer your travel basic questions.

To help any future travelers that wish to come to Hokkaido, I have outlined very clear and concise list for you as to how to get from Chitose Airport to Sapporo by bus or train.

Bus Information

If you wish to travel to downtown Sapporo by bus you can take the Hokkaido Chuo Bus for 1,030 yen. You can find this bus (via Fukuzumi Station) in front of the ANA gate. For the time table on when the buses arrive, you can check the Chuo Bus website.

If you need to get to Sapporo Station or Odori Park, you can take Hokuto Kotsu Bus which is also 1,030 yen bus fare. You will find these buses in the same area, via Fukuzumi Station in front of the ANA gate. The time table for these buses are here.

Please note that if you need to use the bus after 8:00 PM you need to refer to the bus information desk to get information about the bus schedule after that time.

Train Information

If you decide to go with the train, you can take the train directly from New Chitose Airport Station to Sapporo Station. This train runs from 8:00 AM to 10:00 PM every day and costs 1,070 yen. If you have any questions about the train schedule, it is also well worth noting that there is a “Foreigner Guidance Desk” available at the New Chitose Airport Station where the attendants can speak English and help you along your way.

Enjoy your stay in Sapporo!

Can I know what is the earliest time the bus start operating from Bus stop opposite the APA Hotel Sapporo Susukino Ekimae ? TQ

Which way is easier if you have a suitcase or two? I’ve heard that it’s often difficult to travel by train in Japan if you have a lot of luggage because there isn’t much room on the trains. Thanks for the info. I hope to visit Sapporo someday.

This honestly depends on the time on day you arrive if it’s a weekday. If you come sometime between say, 9 AM and 4PM on a weekday the train shouldn’t be too packed. Most buses that are aimed at helping you get from the airport to an accommodation will almost always have a place for you to put your baggage comfortably as you ride the bus, so if you are concerned about space in general, arrive on a weekend, during rush hour or a holiday the bus may be a better bet. That said, I have seen people both foreign and Japanese with a suitcase or two on the train many times. It all depends on your preference, in the end.

Hope you get a chance to come to Sapporo someday!
