Japanese Cinema Night: Yasujiro Ozu

Cinephiles can get together this Thursday to watch and discuss one of Yasujiro Ozu’s (Tokyo Story) lesser known works: Good Morning (1959) is a refreshing return to the comedies that Ozu cut his teeth on. It is unlike most of his postwar films, which focused on the disintegration of the family. It is one of the few films produced in color and is full of comical stock characters, recurring gags, and a critique of modern Japanese culture.
